I am meant to live in a cooler, less blistering heat and sun climate.
If you go north, you'd have to contend with snow and ice and blizzards and clouds for days on end. It's a trade-off. But I understand ... I don't visit my St Louis family or my KCMO friend in the summer.
We had snow in Missouri. Oklahoma usually has ice.
And the grass is always greener on the other side
Those pre-storm winds are always convincing. 😲
I get where you're coming from, but all that work you've done on the pond and other projects in your home... Thinking about picking up and going alone takes guts.
The wrong place and a quick turn-around back out — have been options I've used a few times. 😶
Sometimes you get that flash - Wrong place! Hehehe
Hugs!!
I don't want to break my life into pieces. I feel desperate for peace though. I cannot change Cowboy. I can only change myself and my circumstances.
@PonyGirl1965 ....In some regard keeping your other place as your sanctuary made sense. You are going to need a place away from home for when ur psyche explodes. I understand that need for peace. Huggsss
Wow, that sounds scary. It's always kind of a mad rush to batten down the hatches when a big storm is coming.
There are disadvantages everywhere. I feel like Minnesota is a great place to avoid major disasters like earthquakes and hurricanes (we do get the occasional tornado, but not at the same frequency as your area). But to live here, you have to have tolerance for winter.
When I hear "a cooler, less blistering heat and sun climate" I think Pacific Northwest, but then you're dealing with rainy weather and also possibly The Big One in terms of earthquakes (they are overdue for a major one).
I prefer mountains. There are few tornados in mountains. Good mountains have trees for shade. And often a river close by to go fishing
Completely
I hope you will find other reasons to stay in Oklahoma. That way there is always hope that I might be able to meet you. I'd like to point out that tornado's also happen in Missouri and Arkansas. The winters are usually also worse. I have been stationed at bases in both states and temps were about the same as OK. The difference, that I remember, is that the cold weather / winter season was longer and summer heat less days. I do admit that northern Arkansas was a nice place to visit. OH, OH maybe I just mentioned reasons that might make you want to move. OH WELL maybe you like to drive on roads full of snow and ice.
My most loved place is Cotter, Arkansas on the White River. They get very little snow and tornados just don't happen. Though up the road in Gassville, it is flat and a tornado trashed the place years ago.
I crave mountains and river. The terrain keeps a lot of weather at a distance
My reasons to stay in Oklahoma are BIG, powerful reasons - my kids and grandkids.
@PonyGirl1965 I am glad that you might be willing to stick around awhile. Reading your posts are a highlight of my day. Obviously, I keep asking to see a picture of you, maybe topless, or your butt cheeks, whatever. Mainly hoping to be able to meet you sometime.
@jondoe319 Maybe we have already met.
@PonyGirl1965 I doubt it, since my radar would have picked up on your fantastic breasts and exquisite nipples.
Glad you're safe!
I have lived in the same 30 mile radius for 43 years and can't really imagine living anywhere else because this is home regardless of the threat of tornadoes this time of year and the brutal humidity of the mid to late summer. Sending you hugs. Glad to hear you are safe.
My dad said I inherited his gypsy blood. We make home where we stand.
Hugs!!
Glad you are safe. We got another (much needed) 3/4" of rain yesterday evening, but the REAL show was the thunder and lightning. OMG I've never seen it so intense and frequent.
Before you do something radical and move, two thoughts.
1 - My recent trip included STL and western MO. Two words for ya - heat and humidity.
2 - My sister lives in Alabama and I joke with her about her living in Tornado Alley. (It does seem to have moved.)
Agreed... Missouri has plenty of heat, humidity and tornados so I'm thinking she'd have to go further north.
I am most interested in northern Arkansas as well as Tennessee mountains. Anywhere mountains
Glad you and your family are safe.
I'm pleased the tornadoes missed you. They made the news here.
I hope you get to feel that your house is your home wherever you live or whoever you live with.
Our weather made the news over the pond?! Holy cow. Must have been a slow news day.
Changing people might make Oklahoma better
I love Scotland but the weather is awful. You cannot plan anything outdoors. I would happily move to a dryer climate. Just somewhere where the weather is more pleasant. Take today. I headed to work at around eight and it was wet and windy which it had been for weeks. Now it’s sunny and quite pleasant. This isn’t to last though. The forecast is for wind and rain. Again.
I have friends in Spain and Italy but they get extreme temperatures. Something worth thinking about. They say the grass is greener on the other side but my grass is very green but so wet that it’s impossible to cut it properly. Reckon I am staying here then.
I am a pluviophile - I love rain
I do think the endless damp would be a struggle. Somewhere there is a happy medium. No clue where though
@PonyGirl1965 You and me both.
Yes, but with a job not a home 🏡.
I hope you were able to change the job
@PonyGirl1965 only job I ever walked out of!
We've said for years we wanted to move to Nashville to retire, but the grandkids are close to us here in IL, and another in MN. We would never see that northern baby if we moved.
Even though we are strong women, and could survive alone, it's nice to have the company. Think carefully.
My kids and grandkids anchor me here. One is in Colorado but that is out of my price range. I cannot imagine leaving them. if I could take them with me ...
I don't mind being alone, which is why I divorced. I already new a few years in that this marriage won't last forever, but I was determined to stay in it at least the kid graduates from high school. It took a few years after that, but I'm happily divorced now. There's really no place where I'll ever fully belong, but I've learned to make do.
I tend to think if I have my creature comforts, I can feel at home. I just need somewhere to rest my tired body at night
Hugs!!
I feel you, I lived in the city for about 10 years and the mountains were always calling me. Glad you and family are safe. Hugs
I feel so much peace in the mountains by a river. I can hear God so clearly.
Hugs!!
It's happening to me in normal circumstances not this conditions...but I'm appreciating u and family in this hard weather... everything in house will be fine and requires but the importance thing all of u are safe
Safe is a big issue when we get storms. I have an underground storm shelter if we need it. Hugs!!
@PonyGirl1965 so good hugs 🫂 be careful
